Coca-Cola Named One Of World's Most Sustainable Companies

February 10, 2006 edition

The Coca-Cola Company has been included in the "Global 100" for 2006, an unranked list of the world‘s most sustainable corporations. The list is produced by Corporate Knights and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors. The second annual report was released on January 27 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

This recognition, which follows last year‘s inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, further reflects the Company‘s ongoing citizenship efforts and strong economic, environmental and social standing.

Last year was a critical year for our Company‘s Corporate Responsibility (CR) team. Not only did Public Policy and CR emerge as one of four senior management Councils, but we also institutionalized CR by creating a new department within Worldwide Public Affairs & Communications, produced our first Global Reporting Initiative report, maintained our status on the FTSE4Good, and were included on both the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the Global 100.

The "Global 100" methodology compares companies to their sector peers on a best-in-class basis, rather than on concrete financial performance. The report describes its companies as "sustainable in the sense that they have displayed a better ability than most of their industry peers to identify and effectively manage material environmental, social and governance factors that impact the up (opportunity) and down (risk) sides of their business."

According to Innovest, the "Global 100" is made up of companies in the top 5 percent of the industry groups included in the MSCI World Index.

Other companies on the 2006 list include Groupe Danone, Nike, General Electric, Unilever, SAB Miller and Cadbury Schweppes. More than 25 percent of the corporations on this year‘s list are first-time entries.
