Coca-Cola System Donates Homes To Quake Victims In Indonesia

The Coca-Cola system in Indonesia recently handed over eight quake-resistant houses to employees in Yogyakarta who were affected by a major earthquake earlier this year.

The system funded the construction of eight new houses and the renovation of 53 homes belonging to employees in the area. Affected employees moved into the homes just before the festive season, in time to celebrate with their families. Each house was built with a light metal frame and special panels made up of cement and styrofoam to resist a medium-scale earthquake.

The Coca-Cola system, together with international affiliates, has played an active role in helping quake victims by providing basic needs such as food, drinking water, medicine and emergency shelters. Our contributions to the Yogya relief effort, to date, have topped $328,000. This includes a contribution of approximately $84,000 from the Coca-Cola system in Japan.

Additionally, an economic revitalization program has provided 300 kiosks, coolers, ice chests and free products to nearly 2,000 consumers.
