Company Awards Scholarships In Vietnam
October 27, 2006 edition
Coca-Cola Vietnam, in partnership with Vietnamese Women's Union in Ho Chi Minh City (Women's Union), recently granted scholarships and established a Women's Charity Fund as part of an on-going commitment to benefit disadvantaged women in Vietnam. These initiatives are part of the Coca-Cola Pushcart program.
At the scholarship granting ceremony, 65 children received financial assistance ranging from VN$400,000 (US$25), VN$500,000 (US$31) and VN$700,000 (US$44). The recipients are children of Coca-Cola pushcart operators from 12 districts across Ho Chi Minh City, and have overcome significant personal hardships to run successful small business through this program.
The Women's Charity Fund was set up with an initial capital of VN$150,000,000 (US$9,300). Its purpose is to fund the scholarship program, as well as other forms of financial assistance to women in need.
Our Company’s support has delivered practical means to create sustainable employment opportunities, improving the quality of life for women in Vietnam. In addition to the Coca-Cola pushcart program, the partnership seeks to identify other social activities for providing scholarships and financial assistance.
The Coca-Cola Pushcart program was launched in April 2005 and is now in its third phase. Under this program, more than 1,500 new pushcarts have been granted to disadvantaged women for them to start their own small business.
